Sophia GED successfully organized the Hokkaido University of Education: Thailand Field Program from 11-20 February 2024, under the guidance of Professor Arii and with the participation of 12 students.

During this program, our itinerary included visits to various regions of Thailand, such as Bangkok in the central region, Chiangmai, and Chiangrai in the north. Our objective was to immerse ourselves in the diverse cultures, lifestyles, and traditions prevalent in these areas.

Our exploration began in Bangkok, where we visited prominent landmarks including Chulalongkorn University, Wat Pho, Chinatown, and Arab Street. These visits aimed to provide students with insights into the rich cultural tapestry and distinctive features of each location.

Furthermore, students had the opportunity to engage in fieldwork activities in Bangkok, collaborating with Thai students from different universities. These interactions fostered cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japanese and Thai students.

Subsequently, we journeyed to Chiangrai province, visit to the Rung Arun organization. Here, students participated in various activities focused on sustainable living practices, such as organic farming and coffee bean processing. Additionally, they engaged in cultural exchange activities with local communities, including dance performances, games, and visits to local markets.

Our itinerary also included a visit to Baan Pa Kia, an ethnic minority village, where students stayed with host families from the Mon and Lahu communities. This immersive experience allowed them to gain insights into the daily life, language, and culture of these communities, while also exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and waterfalls.

Finally, our journey concluded with a visit to Chiangmai town, renowned for its tourist attractions and commercial hubs.

We are confident that the knowledge and experiences gained by our students during these 10 days will contribute to their deeper understanding of Thailand. We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for creating cherished memories together.
