Waku Waku Thailand Online Learning Program – October 2026

Following the success of the first Waku Waku Thailand program in July 2026, Sophia GED launched another round of the program on October 18, 2026. This time, the program was held as a one-day online program to provide an opportunity for students who wanted to experience international exchange but had limited time to participate in longer programs.

With this new format, the program focused more on interaction between Japanese high school students and Thai students from high school to university level. Through various activities and discussions, students were encouraged to communicate with each other, share their experiences, and learn from different perspectives.

Program Overview & Highlights:

The program started with a short lecture introducing basic facts about Thailand and the daily lives of Thai people. This session aimed to help Japanese students gain a better understanding of Thailand, even though they were experiencing the program online.

After getting used to the online learning environment, students began the interactive part of the program with a greeting session. Japanese students met their Thai friends from different parts of Thailand and shared their interests and personal experiences. This gave them a chance to get to know one another and discover things they had in common.

After a short lunch break, during which students from both countries could enjoy their meals together online, the program continued with an interactive session on Diversity in Thailand. Through a lecture by Sophia GED staff, students explored different aspects of diversity in Thai society. They also took part in academic discussions on selected topics, allowing them to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s perspectives.

As students became more comfortable with their new friends, they worked together in mixed Japanese–Thai groups on a planning activity: What would you do on a one-day trip in Thailand? Students researched tourist attractions across the country, discussed what each region had to offer, and shared their ideas with their group members. This activity allowed them to learn more about Thailand while practicing communication and teamwork.

Finally, the program ended with a reflection session where students shared what they had learned and the discoveries they had made throughout the day. They also exchanged farewell messages and words of thanks, bringing the program to a close.

Throughout this one-day program, many students showed growing confidence in their communication skills, particularly those who were experiencing international exchange for the first time. By interacting with people from different backgrounds and participating in group activities and discussions, students had the opportunity to discover new perspectives beyond their own experiences and develop a better understanding of other cultures.

What participants say after joining the program:

“After joining this program, I became more interested in Thailand and realized that there are both similarities and differences between Thailand and Japan. I also felt that talking directly with Thai people was a valuable experience.”

“Through this program, I learned that communication isn’t only about speaking English correctly, but also sharing ideas and understanding others. Even though my English wasn’t perfect, I enjoyed expressing my thoughts and learning from Thai students.”

“I have always believed in the beauty of multiculturalism, but this exchange program has deepened this belief even further. Through our discussion about Thai multiculturalism, I gained a greater appreciation for the richness of cultural diversity and the importance of embracing different perspectives and traditions.”

Seeing all these inspirations, we hope to further launch more programs to support student’s learning experience and widening their curiosity of the world even more.

Please look forward to the next round of Waku Waku Thailand, coming soon for everyone to join!
